I trained at Newark College from1975 to 1978 and gained a City and Guilds in Stringed Keyboard instrument manufacture.
After leaving College I worked for John Broadwood and sons of London, initially tuning new instruments and re-building older instruments at the Factory in East Acton. I later became an outside tuner which included visits to the National theatre, Buckingham palace and Broadwoods show room in Conduit street.
I started my own piano tuning, repair and reconditioning business in 1983 and it has thrived. Over the years I have made many contacts in the performing and teaching worlds, as well as in the piano industry itself.
I have attended a number of seminars and workshops at Steinway Hall, run jointly by the PTA and Steinway and Sons. These include Concert Preparation, One Day Servicing and On The Road Repairs. They are a great help in reaffirming and honing existing skills, and incorporating new ideas and practices.
